Book II: The Sword of Valor

The sulfurous winds of the Worldwound carried the stench of decaying flesh as the Knights of Kenabres finally stood over the silent remains of the ghoul horde. After a night of uneasy rest punctuated by the distant, rhythmic drumming of Abyssal war-bands, the Fifth Crusade marched upon SouthBank. The occupation was a festering sore of tiefling mercenaries and cultist zealots, but they proved little match for the righteous fury of the liberated army. The crusaders smashed through the enemy lines, reclaiming stockpiles of masterwork steel and blessed armaments that the cultists had intended to use against the heart of Mendev. With SouthBank secured, the soldiers found new strength, their spirits bolstered by the superior gear salvaged from the wreckage of the enemy’s hubris.
The advance did not falter at the edge of the dry riverbank. The Commander led the host across the cracked, thirsty earth to confront the army of Schir demons haunting Paradise Hills. In a clash of jagged polearms and holy light, the goat-headed fiends were decimated, their chaotic ranks collapsing under the disciplined pressure of the crusade. Amidst the slaughter, a beacon of hope emerged: a large contingent of captured crusaders, broken but not defeated, were liberated from their cages. These survivors nvidea took up arms once more, forming a second formidable army that now marches under the banner of the Inheritor, doubling the crusade’s might in the shadow of the looming Citadel.
As the main host consolidated its position, the party broke away, riding hard toward the Ahari Bridge to ensure a safe passage for the heavy infantry. However, the desolate landscape held one final terror: Soltengrebbe, a mythic chimera of towering proportions and unnatural vitality. The beast was a whirlwind of gnashing teeth and elemental breath, its three heads snapping with a hunger fueled by the Abyss itself. The struggle was arduous, pushing the heroes to the absolute brink of exhaustion as they traded blows with the legendary predator. It was only through the grace of Iomedae and sheer, desperate grit that the final blow was struck, sending the titan toppling into the dust. With the Soltengrebbe slain, the last obstacle before Citadel Drezen is the Ahari Bridge. Though the dark spires of the fortress suggest that the greatest trials are yet to come…
